Receivers, tight ends and backs can equip it, and that has been intentional across several editions rather than a listing error. The offensive half is the part most people never turn on.
A diving catch puts the receiver on the ground fast, which closes the window for a big-hit knockout. Players who run it report the best results on slants, crossers and drags, where you can pass-lead the ball in front of the route and let the receiver dive for it.
One of its three effects strips the usual penalty applied to dive catches. That is why the diving grab is a real option here rather than the desperation animation it normally is.
Base defenders now get diving swat and catch animations far more often than in older Maddens, so the ability adds less on top. It still helps a defender reach a ball he would otherwise be a step short of, but that is the honest ceiling.
Forum users who tracked it reported stretches of roughly ten games with no activations they could point to. Treat it as an edge-case ability, not a per-play effect, and do not pay a premium in AP for it.
