The selling point in every comparison thread is that it grants the knockout abilities regardless of coverage type — it improves man and zone together and makes receivers drop balls near the defender either way.
The reason it wins on points is what the alternative costs: buying Short, Medium and Deep Route KO plus their zone equivalents separately on the same player. Compare it against that bill rather than against any single ability.
Multiple posters in the head-to-head threads say they equip it across the whole secondary and call it "by far the best defensive X-Factor." It is one of the few abilities with that little disagreement around it.
The placement advice is outside corners if you play a lot of man, and safeties if you are already sitting in mid and deep zones. Either way it goes on the defender who touches the most throws, not the best-rated card.
MUT.GG has the X-Factor version flagged as not properly tested, and multiple X-Factors share the name with different activation requirements. The reputation here is well-earned but inherited — verify the requirements on your specific card.
